Lands End Woodland River Festival
The Lands End Woodland, Inc. of St. Helena Island, SC will hold a two-day
celebration, the Lands End Woodland River Festival, on September 1-2, 2006 to
commemorate their founding fathers. THIS EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE
PUBLIC. Parking will be available for cars ($3), vans ($10) and buses ($15) on
the grounds. The Woodland beachfront property is located on Lands End Road, six
miles north of Penn Center on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive on St. Helena
Island.

Fish Fry &Crab Crack
5:00 p.m. – until
A good ole’ fashion fish fry will include fried fish dinners, boiled crabs and
live entertainment on the riverbanks.
September 2nd
All-Day Festival –
10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
All-day festival of singers, dancers, musicians, and storytellers will entertain
visitors. There will also be crafts and food vendors selling a variety of
hand-made goods and delicious Lowcountry cuisine.

Shrimp Festival
Shrimp Festival is set for in Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park in historic
downtown Beaufort. The event includes a run and walk Saturday morning plus a
huge exciting celebration of the shrimping industry. Enjoy local recipes and
tastings or buy it from the local shrimpers to cook your own at home. Limited
non-shrimp alternative foods will be available. Enjoy free entertainment and
activities for kids of all ages. Free live entertainment and a featured concert
will be announced. Plenty of shrimp will make this 12th annual event
unforgettable.

Fall Festival of Houses & Gardens Candelight Walking Tour
Sponsor: Historic Beaufort Foundation
Information: An evening stroll as daylight fades is a favorite way to see
Beaufort. The perennially popular tour includes five private houses located on
the Point, a distinctive neighborhood within the City's National Historic
Landmark district. The houses open on this night represent the variety of
architectural styles built in the city over the past two hundred years.

Hallelujah Singers at Tabernacle Baptist Church
Enjoy a performance by the reknown Hallelujah Singers in historic Tabernacle
Church. The Hallelujah Singers music and song is that of the Gullag culture
which is an integral part of the Carolina Lowcountry. The singers have performed
for Congress, at the Kennedy Center, and in the movie "Forrest Gump" : it is
particularly special to hear them in their hometown.

Fall Festival of Houses & Gardens Kitchens & Cuisine

Information: Experience culinary Beaufort! Local chegs will create regional
specialties in private kitchens in houses on Distant Island and Dataw Island
acroos the Beaufort River from the historic downtown. The 18th century tabby
ruins of the Sams HOuse on Dataw will be an additional feature of the afternoon.
Five chefs, five houses! A fun way to spend Sunday afternoon! Automobile
transportation required.

Penn Center Heritage Days Celebration
Come join us for a down-home celebration showcasing the history of Penn School
and the rich cultural legacy of the Gullah people of the Sea Islands. For the
24th year, Penn will host the Heritage Days Celebration to showcase Gullah
culture featuring entertainers, such as The Hallelujah Singers, Ron and Natalie
Daise and Aunt Pearlie Sue and her Gullah Kinfolk. Witness the Africanisms of
basketry, storytelling, net-making, hair braiding, and bateau making that are
part of a cultural legacy rooted in West Africa.
