Historic Sites
- Horse and Carriage Rides - they take you on a slow ride through the
historic district and are well worth the time and price. There are
several operators, but you can call Carolina Buggy Tours at
843-525-1300
and tell them Southeast Getaway sent you.
- The Arsenal and Beaufort Museum, Craven Street, Beaufort - Indian
artifacts and Civil War weapons
- Penn Center, Martin Luther King Dr., off Rt. 21, St Helena Island,
15 minutes away - First school built in the south specifically for
Black Education.
- Paris Island Museum - History of Paris Island
- Sheldon Church - Built in 1746, burned in the revolutionary war,
rebuilt and burned again in the Civil War. The historic ruins are
located about 15 miles out Rt. 21 toward Rt. 95, on Sheldon Road
- St. Helena's Episcopal Church, Church St., Beaufort - built in
1724. Wander around the graveyard whose tombstones served as operating
tables during the Civil War.
