There is a new BBQ restaurant opened about a month ago on Bay Street downtown. Q
on Bay, I just love that name, is located on 822 Bay St a place where many
restaurants have tried their hand. This is a breath of fresh air and a superb
BBQ destination. The restaurant itself is lovely and in style with the great
downtown structures. It has three levels of service with a large booth area up
front beckoning through those huge plate glass windows on the street. It’s
second level is a pub style setting with doors to an outside deck overlooking
the incredible waterfront park and Beaufort River. The architecture alone should
make you want to visit this restaurant.
The menu has something for everyone including vegetarians offering a Grilled
Vegetable Plate and salads. They offer soup which was Corn Chowder the day we
went. They offer appetizers of Brunswick Stew, Buffalo Chicken Dip, and Chili
Cheese Fries, etc. They is shrimp, burger, huge stuffed spud, wings and wraps. I
had not had BBQ since New Year’s Eve so I wanted it all. In that regard I
selected the Barnyard Platter offering pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket and
ribs with two sides for $16. The brisket is to die for. It is so so tender and
flavorful that it will bring me back to Q’s on Bay many more times. Guess what
I’m cooking for New Year’s Eve 2012. Seriously. I had plenty of food left over
to let my husband have a good taste of everything and still had enough left over
for lunch. My friend had the pulled pork platter and was also pleased.
On the menu they state,” We slow cook everything in our custom rotisserie smoker
“BIG RED” for anywhere between 4 to 8 hours and use local hickory wood for our
smoking. Our dry rub consists of brown sugar, cayenne, garlic, paprika and some
top secret ingredients that give off a mouthwatering flavor.”
I HIGHLY recommend Q on Bay for its excellent BBQ, ambiance, service and
proximity to everything great that Beaufort is. Good Luck “Q”.

Many people who have lived in Beaufort for years have loved the restaurant sitting on Factory Creek. It is all windows overlooking the Creek and the town of Beaufort itself. It has one of the best locations in town and has been one of my favorites since we moved here. A new restaurant just opened in that location about a month ago: Factory Creek Fish Company. I went with a friend for lunch. We sat a at wonderful table with a great view. We ordered splits of Spanish sparkling wine that we both love. We both tried soup. I had corn, ham and crab soup which was very flavorful and great. For lunch we order the Sweet Pepper Shrimp appetizers which the waitress, Angela recommended. We both loved them. All in all it was a wonderful lunch and I strongly recommend you add Factory Creek to you lunch list.
We had dinner at Factory Creek with our neighbors. Once again we had a lovely table in the corner which was quiet and had a great view. The specials for the evening were Seared Scallops and a Seafood Stew. Mostly everyone ordered the scallops which were very large and succulent. I ordered the Seafood Stew with scallops, clams and mussels. It was excellent served with a large piece of herbed bread. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. We even split a huge piece of chocolate cake which I never do. Factory Creek Fish Company located at 71 Sea Island Parkway is a must go to for both lunch and dinner.

The Sandbar and Grill just opened about a month ago and is located next to the Plaza Cinema at 41-B Robert Smalls Parkway opening at 11:00 AM. It has a sandbar theme decor as riding out to and hanging out on the Beaufort River’s sandbar is a favorite pastime in Beaufort. The food is reasonably priced and very good. My friend and I went for lunch this week and had a great time. House wine is only $4.50 including a nice Pinot Noir and it is served in lovely wine glasses. My friend tried the fried green beans which she had never heard of. I saw them on Paula Deen once. The beans were excellent in a light crust and not greasy at all. I had the cheeseburger sliders which were excellent. They had great buns and a round plump burger, which is sometimes unusual. The offer a nice menu with appetizers around $5, salads from $4 to $9, sandwiches, wraps burger and dogs all around $7. They offer ten varieties of wings with Old Bay, Garlic Parmesan and Caribbean Honey Mustard standing out for me. They even offer 12” pizza from $8 to $12. The Sandbar also offers a catering menu. This makes the Sandbar Grill the perfect before or after movie spot for families or dates. Make lunch plans also. I highly recommend the Sandbar and Grill. Get out and try it now.
We took our granddaughter out for lunch one day. My husband who is a major appetizer guy ordered the French fried onion loaf and Chips and Queso. I ordered chicken fingers and we ordered a side of macaroni and cheese for our granddaughter. Everything was huge portions and very good. We had plenty of leftovers to take home and enjoy later. The service was excellent and the atmosphere is fun and friendly. I recommend you try the Sandbar. It is a great option for before or after a movie as it sits right next to the Plaza Cinema.

On Thursday evening we attended a Wine Tasting called Fall in California
at Cat Island Grill and Pub which is located in the clubhouse at
Sanctuary Golf Course. Southern Wines presented four whites and six
Reds. The Raymond Reserve Sauvignon Blanc was my favorite followed
closely by the Joel Gott Chardonnay. Decoy Pinot Noir was excellent and
once again the Joel Gott Cabernet Sauvignon. Great goodies were passed
around and it was a fun social event. Let the Clubhouse know you
information about the next one and make reservations. The cost for
non-club member was $15 a person.

The Foolish Frog is located in downtown St Helena . It has a rustic
appearance both inside and out. We were pleasantly greeted at the door
by the hostess who got us high chairs and menus. My friend and brought
our granddaughters to meet one another and to buy pumpkins at the St
Helena Farmers market. The menu is large offering soups and salads,
sandwiches, and platters. They have a children’s menu and the portions
for them are large so if you a taking a one and a half year old like we
did you may just want to share your meal with them. The service was
excellent and the servers were so sweet with our little girls. They
serve lunch and dinner. My friend had a fried pork tenderloin and loved
it. I had house salad with a bowl of corn and crab bisque. It is a
little pricey but worth the trip. They have a gorgeous marsh view which
will be great for fall and spring when it is not so hot.

My family is vacationing on Kiawah Island in a couple weeks and I am
looking for a photographer to take some photos of my 15 month old. We
may want some family shots as well, but she would be the focus. Would
like someone that focuses on children. Any thoughts would be
appreciated. Thanks!!!

In response to the closing of the restaurant:
Starving Artist Cafe did close and I can tell you we did not stiff
anyone. We are paying the courts for our closing for the next 5 years.
So, get your information straight before you put it in the newspaper.

MoonDoggies Café & Grill located on 10th Street and Paris Ave in
downtown Port Royal offers a wonderful well-rounded menu. Everything is
freshly prepared and the service is wonderful. MoonDoggies is located in
an old home and offer dining rooms and a porch. They have entertainment
on the weekend with Acoustic guitar on Fridays and Pianist on Saturdays.
They are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Starters include crispy fried
pickle chips with sauce, buffalo wings and coconut shrimp . I highly
recommend the coconut shrimp. They offer a great selection of salads
with an 8 OZ NY steak grilled on one of them. I personally love their
Beef on Weck which is similar to a French dip sandwich. It is their best
seller. Named for Boomer the dog and served on a toasted Kummelweck roll
it is so good. Their piled high Reuben is my second favorite and you can
get smoked turkey instead of corned beef if you wish. Other offerings
from their menu are pan-fried lump crab cakes, Mango’s Mahi, Carolina
Po’Boy, and Spicy shrimp burger. Everything is fresh and superb. Only
the finest ingredients go into each menu item. If you are visiting
Beaufort this is a must stop for lunch or dinner. If you live in
Beaufort and have never been you are missing something wonderful.

First of all, Silvi's Restaurant on Ribaut is gone. Understand they
skipped town oweing people money. Too bad. The food wqs good. Heard they
have "pulled " this before.
Starving Artists Cafe is also gone. Got in over their heads. Stiffed a
lot of people including my duughter who worked for them.
You should try Maggies Pub and Patois in Habersham. Excellent food at
reasonable prices.

The Office restaurant is such a super place to meet friends for lunch.
Great menu that ranges from $4 to $9. Fast friendly service and $3 wines
except on Wed. They are TWO DOLLARS!!! Just have to love that. The
Office is owned by a former New Englander and he loves all NE sports
teams. He offers a multitude of TVs and a special section for Patriots
Fans. He also brings a little of NE to Beaufort by offering $10.00
lobsters on Tues night. A one pound lobster already cracked and tail
opened with french fries. This has brought new excitement to Beaufort.
Patrons love it because they offer free Wii and other games. It's a
place where you can meet new people and
bring old friends. For lunch my friend and I love their ruebens. On our
last visit they gave us each a buy one lunch get one free coupons so
we'll go on Wed. when we will also get $2 wines. What a great bargain in
today's economy. If you visit Beaufort you must stop at "The Office",
honey.

Recently three Japanese restaurants opened in Beaufort. I highly
recommend JUNSEI which is located in Town Center next to K-Mart. It is
by no means a plaza restaurant. It is beautifully decorated with dark
wood and is very welcoming. They have an extensive Sushi Bar and I
understand a large sake collection also. The food is very reasonably
priced and delicious. We had the lunch special for $5.99 chicken and
shrimp in a rice bowl. Everything was succulent, served nice and hot,
and a very good size portion. I had warm sake for the first time in a
good many years. The service is very professional and this is a must
visit in Beaufort. It would be great if they started offering Saki
tastings. (hint, hint)

TD's Sport Bar wasn't that great I'M from Southern N.J . The cheese
steak was dry & over cooked, also provolone cheese was on it ,which is
put on a pizza steak up north. Should have been white american cheese.
The salad lacked the right lettuce it had leaf lettuce instead of
iceberg. Also corn beef was dried out & swiss cheese wasn't melted it
was still cold, also no thousand island dressing..There not consistent
on the food .Went 2 times food was served different each time. If your
going to make in this business your kitchen manager should need to keep
on his cooks to keep everything the same. Also seems prep. of the
pickles etc. where also not consistent tom. where small dice l one day
other day large dice. Also the burger's aren't 100% BEEF IT'S MADE LIKE
MEATLOAF ( EGGS & BREAD CRUMBS ARE ADDED) THAT'S A BURGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
INSIDE INFO ON BURGER'S THEY SHOULD CALL A( MEATLOAF BURGER)

We want to welcome a new sports bar to Beaufort, TD's Sports Grill. It
is located next to Plaza Theatre where Beef O'Brady's used to be. It
offers an American Menu which is simple and affordable. Glasses of wine
are only $3.00 everyday. In this economy that's what I need. I don't
need a restaurant where I pay more for my wine than my lunch. The
atmosphere is friendly and casual. The service is friendly and spot on.
With a location right next to the theatre they should do very well. I
loved their steak salad which you can also order with french fries and
cheese on top. It was large enough for two people and the steak was
excellent. On another occasion I had their Reuben and it was delicious.
Whether you're going to the movies or just looking for a family or
sports spot, TD'S is the place.

Yes! Thai Indeed is an authentic Thai restaurant providing exemplary
service and great hot food. Lunch is served Monday-Friday 11:00 to 2:30
and dinner is 4:30 to 9.30. On Saturday and Sunday dinner only is served
4:30-9:00. I recently fell in love with Pad Thai. It was excellent
served piping hot. My husband ordered the green curry and he liked it
very much. This is a lovely little restaurant with total devotion to
fresh hot cooked food to order. Even if you don't think you would like
Thai try this place out. Start with the Pad Thai and I guarantee you
will be hooked for lunch.

Wren is a new restaurant envisioned by the previous owners of Wine &
Gourmet. Wine & Gourmet has an excellent local following for their
sandwiches, salads, and gourmet wine and food store, They did an
excellent job in their move across the street. I like the atmosphere and
the food for lunch is a mixture of wraps, sandwiches, and salads. It was
hard to choose but I finally went with the UPTOWN BLT and it was superb.
I couldn't believe I ate the whole thing but I just wanted another and
another taste until it was gone. My friend selected the Davinci which
included Genoa
Salami, Soprasaota, Rosemary Ham, Lettuce, tomatoes, red onion,
provolone, olive oil and herbs. I was totally torn between the Turkey
Gobbler with Roast Turkey, Cranberry Sauce, and Pecans with herbed
cheese spread. Everything is enticing. A selection of great innovative
salads are also offered including a cobb and antipasti platter. There is
a dinner menu also which looks just as impressive. I encourage you to
visit this restaurants on your next visit to Beaufort. I am sure you
will enjoy it immensely.

wonderful

everything is superb. The service is friendly and fast and its a
wonderful

popular with the locals so plan for it to be busy at lunch time. Early

We have yet another new restaurant in Beaufort called Bricks on
Boundary.
It sits on Boundary St almost directly across from the National
Cememtary.
It was renovated this year and has a great fun atmosphere. They offer a
nightly Happy Hour with well drinks at $3.50 Now that's a great deal. I
had the meatball sub which was a special for the day and my husband had
a
Ceasar salad. It was a lot of fun. The service is excellent. I recommend

chile
with half BLT sandwich. We enjoyed it so much. Don't miss this stop when

Now open, The Blue Crab restaurant and bar is located where Matter of Taste
was, Newcastle Square 1001 Boundary St. They are open 7 days a week
11:00AM to 10:00PM. We went for lunch around 12:30 and the restaurant was
full which is always a good sign. The new owners have kept the white
tablecloth ambiance which keeps it similar to Matter of Taste. I love that
feeling for lunch. You are being treated specially. The full menu is
available for lunch and dinner and we decided to try two of their signature
entrees. I love scallops so I had the grilled scallop plate and it was
excellent. For $18 it comes with a house salad and two side dishes. I
opted for the asparagus and tomatoes and sautéed green beans. My companions
had the 12 oz rib eye at $19 and the other Caesar Salad for $8. The menu
offers starters such as bacon wrapped scallops, buffalo style fried shrimp
or oysters $7 to $8. Their soups included lobster bisque and shrimp and
roasted corn bisque. They offer salads, sandwiches and specialty dishes.
As the name suggests there is an emphasis on the seafood side. Come on down
and welcome the new owners!

There is a great new hotel in town and inside there is a great new
Italian restaurant. The Holiday Inn and the restaurant overlook the
beautiful marshes of Beaufort. The fine dining room is beautifully
decorated offering white tablecloth service and large windows
overlooking the marsh. Two of the booths offer TV's for special events
some diners may not wish to miss. The menu is extensive and also offers
specials of the evening. I adore Italian food and we can't seem to keep
an Italian restaurant in Beaufort. Our party ordered the three cheese
onion soup, Penne Rustica (in the Tuscan style), mushroom ravioli
alforno and penne Bolognese. It was all superb. Entrees were served
piping hot in huge white bowls. Some may say its pricey, as it is but I
got three complete meals out of my one entree for $17. It is of course
fine dining so I feel the prices are reasonable for the expectations.
The wine list is good and the service was so attentive and excellent.
Thanks to and ask for Rea. Top off your meal with the Tiramisu and roll
your belly home. We were told that there are beautiful one bedroom
suites overlooking the marsh for a very reasonable (seasonal) rate for
Beaufort. I highly recommend this restaurant especially if you are a
lover of authentic Italian food such as I am. The entrees run from
Flatbreads for $9 to lamb chops and NY Strip for $22. They serve
breakfast, lunch and dinner and the lounge right next door offers happy
hour and tables on a deck overlooking the marsh. Mark this down as a
must do when you visit our lovely town. One side note: This hotel is a
little difficult to find because it sits back on the marsh away from the
Street. It is located at 2225 Boundary St in between the Econo lodge and
the Chinese Restaurant near Caffino's.

Silvi's European cafe located at 1430 Ribaut Road. This is a family
operated restaurant providing 6 years previously as a pastry chef in
Washington DC. "Pastry chef extraordinaire, Silvi prepares all of the
wonderful pastries and desserts served at Silvi's (and cookies and other
confections "to go") from scratch each morning." These pastries are
divine and Chef Lutz Kuhn uses them in wonderful ways. The lunch menu is
mostly German. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing. White tablecloths
and
European flair accent the dining rooms. Each meal is prepared to order
so you're invited to relax with a glass of wine or beer and enjoy some
pleasant company. Our waitress Ginger was so professional and pleasant.
I chose the Strudel Sampler which included one strudel filled with
sauerkraut, smoked pork and swiss cheese and another filled with baby
spinach, onions and feta cheese served with a garnish of salad for
$10.00. My companion ordered the Black Forest Rueben which was made up
of ham, swiss, sauerkraut served on a bavarian roll with warm German
potato salads for $8.00. We enjoyed our wine and had the very popular
Swedish Almond Tart for dessert. It was a very nice long lunch and I
cannot wait to go back for dinner. I have been told the dinner menu is
more extensive including Filet and more. Lunch is served
11:00 to 2:30 and dinner is 5 to 9. Plan this into your trip to Beaufort
and prepare to enjoy a long leisurely European dining experience.

We have a new Thai restaurant here in Beaufort and everyone is talking
about it. Yes, Thai Indeed. It is on Boundary St in a non-descript
little building set back from the road. It does not inviting but once
you walk through the door and see the charming white cloth interior and
smell the flavors from the kitchen you are automatically rest assured
that it is going to be great. The menu is quite large with prices
ranging from 3.95 to 9.95. Lunch is served Monday through Friday and
dinner only on Sat. and Sun. They offer appetizers, salads, soup, noodle
bowls and fried rice curries and much much more. I selected Chef Sanits
selection of CHOA-LAY. It was a sautéed combination of seafood with
shrimp, green mussels, calamari and sea scallops with fresh chili
pepper, garlic in Thai creamy basil sauce. It was very good. The service
was efficient and friendly. I will definitely be
going back.

We have new complex in Beaufort on Boundary Street called Town Center.
It is comprised of various buildings housing some wonderful places to
eat, shop and stay. One Town Center has a Mo's, Rita's and various other
businesses. That is located directly across from the Government Center.
To the right of that a hotel was totally renovated and this houses The
Inn at Town Center who boasts the largest and deepest outdoor pool in
Beaufort. Rates begin at $81 and range to $119. They are a little higher
during marine graduation. The staff is friendly. Everything is brand new
so check it next time you need a place to stay or put up family. In that
building there is also the Visitor's Center and then The wonderful
Starving Artist Cafe. Open seven days a week 6-3 this little cafe has a
very nice menu. All the deli meats are cooked on the premises. How great
is that! Their breakfast items include Eggs Benedict, Corned Beef Hash,
and remember that corned beef is fresh cooked. The Omelets sound
delicious with the Irish Omelet calling my name. I went at lunch time
(although you can get breakfast items all day long. The prices are very
reasonable. They offer Beef Veggie Soup, salads, wraps deli sandwiches,
Burgers including Shrimp, and then a host of
signature sandwiches with my personal favorite Plymouth Rockwhich is
turkey, bacon, and cranberry sauce w/mayo on pumpernickel. You have to
be tempted by Tuscan chicken or the pastrami special. I love it all and
will be going back till I try everything. They offer fresh baked rolls,
buns, muffins, pies, cakes and cookies. They offer take out and delivery
for lunch. It's a great little place. The restaurants has artwork for
sale all over its walls. Much of it I believe is local. They even have
jewelry. I love this place and the friendly people so put this on your
must do list for both breakfast and lunch.

There is a new restaurant on St. Helena Island named Boondocks. It
really isn't that new, maybe a year but we just got a chance to try it
this January, 2008. We were meeting friends for dinner and it is a
central location for us. Boondocks is located in what I assume to be an
old home. I know several restaurants have been there over my years in
Beaufort. The restaurant is bright and cozy with the entire front of the
dining room windows overlooking huge live oak trees. The service was so
friendly and efficient we were truly impressed. At times we had three
people checking on
us. When we entered a good friend told us the local she crab soup was
excellent. The menu was large with great offerings making it hard to
choose. I opted to follow the recommendation of a friend and ordered the
she crab soup and crab cake sandwich. I give enormous credit to this
staff because the soup came out steaming hot. Usually soups in
restaurants are luke warm at the best and I like them hot. It was thick
and satisfying and a good recommendation. The crab sandwich was
excellent and much more than I could eat. My husband ordered ribs which
came out piled to the sky. Our friends ordered fried shrimp and prime
rib. Everything was excellent. Freshly cooked, hot, not greasy just
perfect in every way. Great job
Boondocks. We'll be back.

There is a brewery in Beaufort as of December 2007 located in the new
Town Center (K-mart/Outback). Ironically, it is named Brewer's Brewing
Company owned by none other than Josh D Brewer. Josh is also the brewer.
It is set on the side of the building towards Bi-Lo. The restaurant is
bright and inviting with the friendliest service you will find anywhere.
It serves lunch and dinner opening at 11:00 AM. Brewer's offers a huge
menu with something for everyone including a great kid's menu. We
decided to give
Brewer's a try in December after traveling a couple weekend and all the
holiday food so we wanted to test out their light side of the menu. My
husband started with Spiedies In a Blanket. Described as an upstate NY
favorite it consisted of marinated beef wrapped in phyllo, baked and
served with dipping sauce. It was unusual and quite good. He then had a
great Caesar salad. I had to choose between some wonderful sounding
options shrimp ceviche, shrimp & scallop skewers or Artichoke & Red
Pepper Bruschetta. I opted to try their onion soup and bruschetta. Both
were good. Unfairly for Brewers one of our trips was to Colorado where
we tested three different breweries. We would usually try a sample tray
of the beers but opted for one glass of ale and a wine. This is a place
you can return to again and again because the menu is so eclectic and
huge. I already have several things in mind for my next trip back.
Welcome to Beautiful Beaufort Josh. Job well done.

I need to order a cake for the graduation party for my son. He'll be
graduating from Parris Island Marine Recruit Deport near Beaufort on March
9, 2007. I'd like your recommendations for where/who nearby I can order
such a cake. Ideally, I'd like to have a cake with the USMC emblem on top.
We are from Michigan and flying out to join up with other family and I
want to get this cake ordered and off my list. I'd appreciate any
suggestions.

My friend and I spent a lovely day this June touring gardens of the
Beaufort Garden Club Members. I bought a great book on what to plant and
tend to by the month of the year in a Lowcountry garden. The members said
they hold this tour each June. One garden is featured a day. It is free
and so well worth the time. This particular garden was in the gorgeous
historic Point area of Beaufort just a short walk from downtown. It was
such a beautiful peaceful garden and all the viewers seemed to maintain a
calm reverance of its peaceful plan. It was a scorching hot day but the
mostly shade garden cooled us and our senses. The members offered free
lemondade and cookies and were very helpful in identifying certain plant
varieties. I very much recommend looking for the dates of next year's
Garden Club tours. It was a very nice way to spend a summer morning.

We want to welcome the Lowcountry Winery and tasting room to Bay St. The
proprietor Amy Burch is a breath of fresh air oozing southern charm. The
tasting room offers wines made from ingredients from all over South
Carolina. The tastings include dry wines with no risidual sugar like
Merlot, Chardonnay and Elderberry. This was my first elderberry
experience. The demi-sec wines with 1 to 2% residual sugar are Chardonnay,
Pinot Grigio and the Proprietor's Red. Medium wines with 3 to 5% residual
sugar include Lowcountry Nectar, Elderberry, Bay Street Berry and
Framboise. Lastly but most popular with some are the sweet wines with 6 to
10 % residual sugar are Lowcountry Nectar, Elderberry, Bay Street Berry,
and Framboise. All of their wines are for sale for $16.99. The label on
the bottles is gorgeous. My friend and I tasted most of the wines. We both
bought a bottle of the Demi-sec chardonnay and I bought a logo wine glass
for only $2.00 What a deal! This is a pleasant place to visit and a nice
respite while strolling Bay Street. We want to welcome Amy and her husband
to town and wish them great success with this endeavor. We sure had a
great time.
