It breaks my heart to read the comments about one of my favorite
restaurants, Poogans Porch. The last time I had the pleasure of dining at
Poogans Proch was about 10 years ago and I was enchanted about the story
of the little dog Poogan -- I have a little dog named George. I absolutely
loved the meal -- from soup to nuts. The service was excellent and each
course was better than the one before. When my friends or co-workers tell
me they are going to visit Charleston I tell them that they must go and
eat at Poogans Porch. I can but hope they are at least somewhat as good as
I remember, I cannot wait to visit Charlestown once again and to dine at
the delightful Poogans Porch.

Anyone visiting Charleston is missing a fabulous dining experience if you
don't try the Grille 225 in the Market Pavillon Hotel on the corner of
Market and Bay Streets. Everything is made on the site, everything is
fresh that day including seafood and steaks. Their chopped Caesar salad is
unbelievable and their side dishes will feed three or four people. Their
desserts are out of this world and the service is the best I have ever
experienced and I have eaten all over the world as well as the US. If you
want to laeve Charleston having eaten the finest the city has to offer try
Grille 225.

we plan to visit Charlston in the spring, 2005 for a couple of days on our
way home from an elderhostle in Savannah Ga. We will do a Grey line tour
of the historic district on one day, but can you recommend a plantation
and garden visit for the second day?

I'm looking for an apartment to rent preferably in or around downtown
Charleston for the month of February, 2005, for purposes of tourism. We
might consider outlying area if necessary. 2 adults no pets. References.
Any suggestions out there? Last year we stayed in Savannah and there are
lots of apartments so why not Charleston? Thanks. Tommo

When visiting Charleston, SC - a must is taking a walking tour with Tommy
Dew of On the Market Tours. He is by far the best tour guide I've ever
had. So knowledgable and entertaining. He also has a Ghost Story CD that
is fantastic! Easy to remember number 843-853-TOUR (8687).

We vacationed again in Wild Dunes this past May. Rented a spacious villa
and had picture perfect weather. We always spend our first day in
Charleston on a walking tour. Battery, Rainbow row were lovely as ever.
Did notice alot of homes for sale this year in the historic district.
Never miss the markets and purchase our sanddollar for our Christmas tree.
The Charleston Crab house has a nice menu with rooftop
seating. We always try to eat in a new establishment each year and we
tried the Vickery in Shem's Creek. Ok menu. The Marina by Wild Dunes has a
nice menu and lovely view. The week goes by too fast. We already have our
villa booked for May 2005.

We visited Charleston last month. We found a neat neighborhood called I'on.
They have an awesome coffee cafe' there..Courtyard Coffee and Cream. We
found it thru a breezeway of a orange medditeranean building. We are so
happy we did...thier Espresso is not of this country. Straight from the
shores of Italy!!! Not to mention the scumptious wrap and roasted red
pepper soup..The owner Michele was absolutley awesome and topped our meal
off with thier award winning ice cream...I tried the strawberry WOW!! An
enjoyable mouth watering experience, find this little hidden jewel and you
will sit in a romantic courtyard and feel like your in another country.
Enjoy, Jackie

Charleston is a fabulous place to visit!! So much history and so many
GREAT places to eat. Folly Beach ws ok. Destin, Fl. puts it to shame.
There is also NO surfing there, we saw a handfull of people trying but the
waves are just not there. The people are nice, when they are not in their
cars. I don't guess they teach drivers ed there, because NOONE used their
turn signals at all. Other than a few small things Charleston is a close
to perfect getaway!! Hope you enjoy! Bill Phish

I travel to Charleston as much as I possibly can! One place stands out in
my mind that I just have to go to when I want some good food! That place
is A.W. Shucks. I never had tried a crab cake until I ate one of theirs &
I have tried them at places since then without finding one as good as they
have! I also love the stuffed shrimp. I usually get the combo! This is a
must try if you get to visit Charleston.

If you are visiting charleston, you got to visit Folly Beach , "The Edge
of America". Folly Beach is the home of sea, sand, and surfing, historical
and cultural sites; a maritime forest; Morris Island Lighthouse; gourmet
food, endangered species of birds; and southern hospitality. Folly Beach
is a "must see - must visit" place. A great place for nightlife and live
bands at The Folly Pelican.

While staying in Charleston I went to Folly Beach. I went to this newly
opened bar on the island, it was the Folly Pelican. I truly had a blast!
They had live music, wonderful service, and even better the ambience was
out of this world. Part of the bar was done after one of my heros Jimmy
Buffet. I truly recommend this bar. There number is 558-4095.

I am inquiring about ideal locations for family reunions in the Charleston
region-preferably on Isle of Palm or Folly Beach. We are accostomed to
Cape Cod but decided to go south and I can't find anything similar. We
need to rent an entire facility due to the fact that we are musicians and
devote one night to music and dancing. We anticipate at least 75 people.
Any advice?

Editor's Note: Hi Kathleen, having been to The Cape many times and now
living in Beaufort near Charleston, perhaps I can help. Not sure what you
mean by "similar" The only thing potentially large enough on Folley would
be the Holiday Inn on the Ocean with many small clubs nearby. On Isle of
Palms you can try Wild Dunes and nearby Charleston offers many, many
clubs. I personally think Charleston is a lot like Beacon Hill in Boston.
