In December's Southern Living issue a culinary article described
Charleston's progressive dinner of four courses in three inns. This event
is in its 20th year. The dinner begins in the Courtyard of the Kings Inn
for small savory dishes served from its antique sideboard. Next dinner
progresses by horse drawn carriage to the Circa 1886 garden of the elegant
Wentworth Mansion for appetizer and entree. By carriage again you are
taken to the historic Rutledge House Inn for dissert in the upstairs
parlor by the fireplace. It sounds so wonderful for history, architecture
and food buffs alike. I am definitely putting it on my list to do next
year. For more information 843-853-7828 or
www.circa1886.com $85 per person
includes tax and gratuity.

I love the restaurant California Dreaming. The side facing the Ashley
River is all windows overlooking the downtown Charleston. Their house
salad and honey croissants are incredibly unique and delicious. They serve
both lunch and dinner. There is always a long wait but if you are willing
to sit in the lounge area (smoking) you can usually get a booth quickly.
The ceilings and vent system keep it from smelling or feeling smoky. There
is a Hampton Inn right next door if you are looking for a place to stay.

In the Charleston Place hotel downtown (one entrance
on King and the other right across from the Marketplace on Meeting) there
is a fabulous restaurant that is always written up well. I think it is
called the Grill. The hotel offers a club level on the top two floors
offering complimentary cocktails, tea, cordials, etc all day long. I love
the hotel Although I have never eaten at the Grill, I have read numerous
raving reviews. Have a lovely Thanksgiving. If you are truly fortunate the
hotel will be decorated for Christmas.

Spend another wonderful vacation in Charleston and at Wild Dunes Resort.
Our walking tour this year took us thru several small alley's and streets
(Bedon and Tradd) in Charleston. Wonderful gardens. Relaxed on a bench in
the park by the pineapple fountain before continuing our walk to 82 Queen
for lunch. My husband said the best She Crab soup and an excellent crab
BLT. Out on Shem Creek, the Trawler is now Big Game Grill. We had dinner
at the WatersEdge. The boats were coming in from the fishing trips and the
catch for the fishermen was huge. The WatersEdge has the best Key Lime pie
in the world. For a side trip, Summersville is not far and there are many
lovely shops and restaurants in the historic district. Next yr we have to
stay longer.

Hi there. No one seems to talk about the beaches. I'll be there Monday and
want to go to the beach to swim and sun worship. Recommendations for which
beach is greatly appreciated. Also need to rent chairs and umbrella. We're
staying near the airport. Also any comments regarding Middleton Place for
dining is requested.

Plantation and Garden visit: I would recommend the Middleton Place
Plantation or Magnolia Plantation. I would stay away from Boone Hall as
it's over-priced and not nearly as magnificent as these others. Have a
great stay!

AW SHUCKS ? That is a Dallas Texas restaurant I bet they're copying. It is
extremely casual, you can eat outside where you walk on clamshells and eat
on picnic tables; or go inside and sit on a stool. Best shrimp imaginable,
best seafood gumbo (as they call it) I've ever eaten. If you go to google
and put in aw shucks dallas it brings up their menu. suzy

Hi my name is Kate and I am a 21 year old college student. I am planning
on living in charleston this summer but was wondering if anyone had any
ideas regarding a fun summer job. I love working with people. I have many
years of experience waitressing, cocktailing and some bartending
experience. I was hoping to find a fun job that would make me the most
cash. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I am not that familiar
with the area.

We are a group of 12 (6 adults and 6 children, ages 3-8) who will be
staying at Edisto for a week in June. Can you tell me of any charter boats
for fishing or glass-bottom boats in that area or around Charleston?
Thanks!

Our book club went to Jestine's Kitchen on 1/16/05 after visiting the
wonderful aquarium. It was wonderful. We had to wait a little while on the
sidewalk (kind of chilly) but it was well worth it! We all had different
entres and all were great. Our seafood dishes were perfect (fried shrimp,
fried oysters, and pecan crusted whiting), someone had spinach spoonbread
served with creamy grits, and another had the grilled meatloaf with mashed
potatoes and gravy. My friend and I split a piece of coconut cream pie
that was heaven on a plate. The prices were reasonable and the service was
first rate too. We were all very pleased and we are picky and have been to
many the Charleston restaurant. Justine's Kitchen is not fancy but it sure
was yummy.

MISTRAL- the only good thing about France that there is....Charleston,
SC...check it out!
And, "Lady" dont be so concerned about missing the BUBBA GUMP Shrimp Rest.
If you want to go there, just put a lobster around your neck and walk into
a grocery and buy some Captain Ds. take-home seafood in a box. Invite 10
people more than
your house can hold, hire 3 incompetent, under 21 year old waiters, and
throw a bunch of plastic Ocean paraphanalia around your livingroom. Play
Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, and you'll be all set. (Oh ya, and dont
forget the yellow/orange
strob-light to make it look like the sun is setting...

We visited Middleton Place Plantation and Gardens last spring and it is
beautiful! It is located just outside Charleston (20 minutes) and well
worth the drive. The gardens here are a national historic landmark and are
famed to be the oldest landscaped gardens in the United States. The spring
will be beautiful with the extensive amount of camellia trees in bloom,
plus the azaleas.
