My family and I ate at the Outrigger in North Myrtle Beach for many years. We were extremely disappointed to see that it had closed the last time we were there. Do you know if there are any cookbooks available for this restaurant? I really loved the dipping sauce for their hushpuppies. I should have bought a cookbook a long time ago, but I always thought I would be able to go there to eat. Thanks for your help.

This is not a comment, but seeking information. My husband and I, along with two friends, are planning a trip to Myrtle Beach in July. We need accommodations where there is a pier to fish off of without going into the water. It must be close to the hotel where we will be staying. We appreciate any information you can e-mail to me concerning this request along with prices for the hotel and fishing.

RE: Swimming with dolphin. The closest you're going to get to the dolphins is on a jet ski tour. Swimming with them in SC is against the law in the wild. There are no dolphin research centers here. Wish there was. Try googling mbjetski. Good luck, hope you get to see them up-close.

I'm trying to find a place in Myrtle beach or N.C on the beach. ..

This is in reference to Castle in Murrells Inlet, SC. For all of the rest of us who wonder what the prices or rates are for having a wedding there the prices are said to be as follows. For two nights( Friday & Saturday) from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. the rate runs a steep 1600 dollars. For every day people like me who expected the fee to be high but not that high it is not do able. The fee only includes the castle and nothing else like tables or chairs, etc. I myself am rethinking a cruise wedding instead. Just thought I'd let the people know who where planning to make the call.

Ocean Pier IV unit 335 is the most disgusting, dirtiest place I have ever stayed in the Myrtle Beach area (can't forget to mention the bug infestation). This was my 14th trip to Myrtle and this was the worst place I have ever stayed. The internet pictures were very deceiving, I have pictures of the real thing.

I am glad Myrtle has so many attractions and the weather was nice all week so we could spend as little time as possible in the condo. Last time I rent from an individual and EWA Property Management.

Information center on 1604 N Kings Hwy Just to let everyone know we stopped at this info center that was next to wings, got some brochures and nicely declined the mans offer to see a time share. Walked next door to wings when I came back the man had towed my car leaving me and my baby and husband stranded. When I asked why he did this he told me I should have went and looked at his time share and maybe my car
wouldn't have been towed. Just pre-warning everyone as I'm sure I'm not the only
one he has done this too. If anyone has any idea on who I should contact to
at least get this man out of business please let me know.

Editors Note:
- Sharks, we don't know for sure, but there probably has been an occasional minor bite. Best advice anywhere, stay out of the water in early morning and late afternoon - they are feeding then and accidents happen. Don't wear shiny jewelry or shiny objects on bathing suits
- Jellyfish - as with most beaches they come ashore occasionally Usually later in the summer. MSG works well if stung
- Dolphins - no organized swims we are aware of, Dolphins have become more
and more protected over the years. However, you regularly see them near the
shoreline. You may be able to find boats that go out on dolphin cruises

We went to Bike week in the Spring every year for the last 3 years. BEFORE you make a reservation it is wise to call and see if bikes are allowed on the premises. The M Grande in SurfSide Beach is great!! The renovations are complete, and has all the amenities you can expect from a nice resort and they have a parking garage that on the first two levels accommodate trailers and they allow bikes. The garage is walked by a security guard. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. They have an outdoor deck and often have a live band and cook out for Bike Week.

Best places to visit: Dick's Last Resort, The Dog House South, SBB in Murrel's Inlet, The Original Benjamin's Calabash in Restaurant Row, Thorny's for steaks and seafood (there may be a wait but is so worth it), a little more pricey is Key West Grill in Barefoot Landing but they serve great food and even Cuban favorites like fried plantains and Cuban sandwiches and while you are there..go to Fat Tuesday's for great frozen drinks. MB is all around a great get away spot and since I live in Maryland, not too far away. This years adventure has a Pirate cruise in Georgetown , Drunken Jack's in
Murrel's Inlet, and whatever else we decide to get into!!

We went recently to Myrtle Beach and had a great time. Sea Captain's House was terrific for a good meal and a view of the sea. River City Cafe was really good for hamburgers and fries. Duffy Street Seafood Shack was great; good food on the cheap. NASCAR Cafe was good; mostly atmosphere. We avoided the buffets; $25 or more is too much for someone who will only make one trip anyways.

Weekend of April 16. I have read a few comments here about the Dayton House and their management so I couldn't resist throwing my 2 cents in the pile. Short and sweet, first trip to MB in 20 years, 4th anniversary, actually our honeymoon (yeah were poor folk). 2nd night their at 3 am the fire alarm went off and we were evacuated down fifteen flights of stairs. Was told only that the casue was dust got in some sort of filters. No sooner did we fall back asleep the alarm went off again and yes, we were again evacuated down fifteen flights of stairs. The next night about the same time, the fire alarm went off again. My wife called the lobby this time before we ran down the stairs again and they told her it was a false alarm. No explaination no apology. I guess one good night of sleep out of three wasn't worth an apology. The Dayton House should reconsider their noise pollution policy.

I have been to the Myrtle Beach area at least one time each year since 1985. My wife and I began going in 1986, and our 13-year old has been every year since birth. We usually stay either at the south end or in North Mytle. The past couple of years we have stayed at The Blockade Runner in the Cherry Grove-Ocean Drive section of North Myrtle. The motel is extremely nice, and reasonably priced. Boulineau's IGA Store is located within walking distance, and they have about anything you need, including groceries, a cafeteria, bakery, ice cream, fishing supplies, etc.
We hope to go back later this summer, and pay a visit to Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park. It's been years since we were at either. Both are located south of the Myrtle Beach area, but well worth the miles. The last time we were there, Huntington Beach reminded me of the way the beach was when I was a kid. We really go down there for the beach, the ocean and sun anyway, so the peacefulness of Huntington is great.
I have many fond memories of visits to the Myrtle Beach area. We've made reservations again at the Blockade Runner for May, and we're looking forward to the trip.

I have been to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina many many times and always stay with the very accomodating folks at Tee & Sea Rentals located on Bay Tree Golf Plantation on HWY # 9 just a mere 5 minutes drive away from the Atlantic Ocean one of the
nicest parts of the beach... 1-800-BAY-TREE is the number to call if you want excellent accomodations, Golf Packages or whatever your needs may be they can accomodate you. Janie is the Lady that i've dealt with over the years and always taken
great care of my vaction needs...

Great places to eat at are :
The Parsons Table (Little River) 5 minutes from Bay Tree
Casa Villa (Little River) Awesome Mexican Food
Duffy Street Seafood Shack (Main Street in North Myrtle Bch)
Chiantis (Little River) Great Italian Food

Shopping :
Just over the border in Calabash, North Carolina is the "Low Country Stores" what a lovely place to stop and shop with some of the Carolinas friendliest store owners. My grandkids thought "Karolina Kidz" rocked...

I hope you all have many wonderful adventures and memorys to last a lifetime while visiting Myrtle Beach. It's the best home away from home place i've ever been to.

Have to tell you about a great new spa in Myrtle Beach, designed for men but female-friendly, too. It's called He's Not Here BarberSpa For Men. This very cool place is a combination barber shop and day spa, complete with haircuts and styling, massage, manicure, pedicure, facials and a locker room to shower and change afterward. Very upscale but with very reasonable pricing ($18 haircut with old-fashioned hot towel facial, shampoo and scalp massage.) Classy leather and mahogany furnishings, too, with three flat-screen TVs and a super-friendly staff of great ladies and men. It's definitely worth a visit!

There are lots of good places to stay. I like South Myrtle Beach. The Holiday Inn on the South Beach is good. It is reasonable and lots to do for the 12 yr old. I also like Coral Beach owned by the same people. I was looking at rates today for Oct and they are running about 45-63 per night.

If dining is a priority, you must visit murrels inlet. This is nor really a reply. I seen the note that you posted as I was also wondering the same thing. The only hotel that I found was the Compass Cove. Is there any other hotel that are on the beach that you found? Please let me know. We also have a small dog who is a part of the family and should never and will never be left out of the 'FAMILY VAC'.

My family has been going to the Cherry Grove area for 18 years. We have always rented a house and have never had any problems from any of the realtor groups that we have used. One of the restaurants that we go to every year is Captain Juels in Little River. If you are looking for a nice family area to stay in Cherry Grove is the perfect place to go.

Try the Boardwalk Hotel. We stayed there last year and they didn't give us any trouble. Their prices are one of the cheapest up there to be right on the beach. If your under 21 and gonna drink though your best to stay in your room and do it cause there was a lot of people arrested last year (June 2003). For a real good time try the Freaky Tiki Club. It was awesome. At around 7PM every gets in there cars or walks down the strip. It is only about 1 mile long but it will take you about 2 hours to get down sometimes. You got a lot of time during that to have fun though.

For the past years we have vacationed in North Myrtle Beach and have LOVED it!! We rent a condo at Sea Cloister II and just love it. So much better then a hotel. It has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a lovely porch. And the cost wasn't much more. We had all the wonderful things North Myrtle Beach plus Myrtle beach within minutes.

I have traveled extensively and have seen many 200 pounders that were not as well mannered as many german shepherds...just a thought! Who ever made the comment about getting fined or going to jail for throwing cigarette butts on the ground. I saw GOOD! About time they do something. Do you know where your cigarette butts go whn you throw them on the sidewalk, street and out your car window??? Straight to the ocean and our beaches. No one runs around sweeping them up!!! Remember the drains lead straight from the street to the ocean.

Our fathers last trip was to Myrtle Beach. He would sit on the balcony and look out. Or he would go out with my brothers on a fishing boat. We have not been to the beach (family trip) since our father death. But we are planning a trip to take our mother next year. We are looking forward to it. To sit and look at the ocean, we know it is one of God's greatest cerations. Thank You, and, God's blessings, Mrs. Diane Suber- Davis (And family)

My husband and I and our children have always loved coming to myrtle beach for our family vacations. We usually try to make it down for your great bike rally's. The last time we were able to make it down was our best vacation ever. We were at the pavilion and much to our surprise my brother had decided to surprise us by bringing my 76 year old mama and her 82 year old boyfriend down to check out what bike rally's were all about. Little did we know that it would be the only time she would ever see the beach. She passed away this year on May5,2003. and I just didn't have bike rally fun in me.Now that things are starting to settle down my children are just driving me crazy to come back. But as things go with a death in the family I was out of work for almost a month staying with my mama before she passed and so all the beach money has been spent. So you see we need this vacation to try and have some sanity before school starts back this year... Thank-You.... Minnie Braxton

My family and I have enjoyed Myrtle Beach for years. Lately (1994-2002) we have made it a true family experience. My mother and her Aunt, myself and children,son-in-law,grandchildren,sister and brother-in-law, and thier children, all three of my brothers and thier assorted friends. We always rent a house on the beach from Whites Realty and have always been happy . Sometimes we #8, can go up to 20 though ! We have enjoyed watching the children play and change over the years. We meet there once a year in the summer and always have a blast. Yes we have lost loved ones who we miss dearly , but getting together and recounting memorable moments fron previous trips is great. If you haven't tried South Carolina beaches I encourage you to give it a try soon !Call us The Clark Gang !

We have been coming down south for the last 7 years and there is nothing like golfing if you haven,t golfed mytrle beach. My father [72] my brother [49] my blind friend [75] myself [45] just came back in late april [03] and we find the weather is perfect, while we are there and when we arrive back in canada. if you just want to golf only [no night life] stay in north mytrle beach, [you find less expencive prices and alot quieter], but if you want excitement and the night life, stay in south mytrle, [exspecially if you are bringing teenagers or your wife.]

We stayed at the KINGSTON PLANTATION, staff where extra nice & everything was extra clean. They have ocean front condos, villas & townhomes. Several pools, casual dining & nicer dining. Maid came to villa every day and cleaned tubs, showers, mopped & vaccumed. And gave fresh towels daily. No wonder everything was so clean. Our villa had a screened in porch, which was nice. I highly recommend this place!!! You can look it up on internet www.kingstonplantation.com

Places we went and enjoyed where: Alligator Adventure, Pavillion, & our most favorite was BArefoot Princess boat ride down the water way. Yo never enter the ocean. It is located behind the barefoot landing shopping center.

** And a great place to eat is: BENJAMINS CALABASH SEAFOOD (on restaraunt row) it was the first one to open a calabash food place. actually I would have to say it was a little of everything. At the front they take your picture behind a captains wheel. And when you leave you get two small pictures for free. Upon entering shipmates greet you at the door (it feels like your really entering a ship) and one leads you through the huge place where you will see several fish tanks & real stuffed large fish & such on the walls. Besides all the neat stuff you see their buffet is out of this world!!!!!! I highly recommend it! We have been in the catering business for 18 years & I give it 5 stars!!! As you leave dont miss the cute little gift shop. i bought my 6 year old daughter a huge heart shape ring (like the heart of the ocean ring on Titanic) It was only 1.99 and the stone & metal feels like real, I thought it would be plastic!!!! Enjoy your stay and soak up the sun!!!!!

Just spent a few days at Grande Shores Ocean Resort in Myrtle Beach . Have to say they have some of the cleanest rooms and best guest service I have seen in a long time . We had the most pleasant & helpful service from the time we called to make our reservation to the time we checked out at the Front desk . The housekeeping is fabulous and the hamburgers at the pool grill are some of the best I have had . They also arranged for us to play golf at some very good courses without charging us an arm and a leg..Great Place is all I can say

My husband and son and I just came home from our first visit to Mrytle Beach. Other than the horrible weather we had a wonderful trip and can't wait to visit again. We stayed at the Poindexter hotel. The staff there was very friendly and accomodating. The rooms are clean and servicable. The town itself was very enjoyable. We enjoyed all of the shops on the strips. We did spend one day at Barefoot Landing and the Alligator exhibit and had fun. Our favorite dining was at the Seafare Restaurant. The service staff was excellent and the buffets were wonderful. My son enjoyed the mermaids and the singing pirate. I can't wait to make their crab imperial dish.

Hi this is Cherish Rosas. My friend Laura and I recently stayed at Barefoot Landing in North Mrytle. The stay was one to remember forever. The campground includes: an excercise room, jacuzzi, picnic area, arcade, lazy river, indoor pool, outdoor pool, and a kiddie pool. My friend Laura and I met some really good looking and really nice boyscouts there named Brian and Brennan. We stayed the weekend of May 2nd through May 4th. So if anyone has any information about this troop from Charlotte North Carolina please contact me Laura and I didn't get to really say goodbye to them like we wanted and we didn't get any pics either though they got pics of us! You should really stay at BArefoot Landing; It gives you a great sense of community away from home. Please help me and my friend Laura out! Thanks!

For the teenagers looking for a room in Myrtle Beach. Call the Yachtsman 800-868-8886 or 843-448-1441. From march 1-22 they rent to 19-21 year olds and from May 26-June 2 they rent to 18-21 year olds. They only have a few rooms that they rent to teenagers. This is oceanfront and on the strip (close to the Pavillion) The rooms I heard are small. The Dolphin (one street over but it on the strip)1505 N. Ocean Blvd. 843-448-3917. This was not in this years Stay and Play magazine but you could call. I know these two places rent to teenagers because both of my sons have stayed there. Order the stay and play magazine call 1-800-496-8250 ext. 8000. In the index they put a "S" beside the hotels that rent to students. If you want to be close to the pavillon I know the Yachtsman and the Dolphin are right where you would want to be. Order the book I looked through it and a lot of places in the book do have a "S" by it.

For the teenagers looking for places that will rent to them....have you tried Blue Bay? or Driftwood? Breakwater? Poindexter? Look down town at some of the smaller one owner run hotels. The hotel itself will not be fancy but you aren't going to be in the room much anyway.

It looked like this forum needed an update. I've stayed in Myrtle Beach at least once or more a year EVERY year since I was about 14 and I'm now 41. I absolutely have to visit at least once a year and wouldn't miss it. Needless to say, I've stayed in tons of the hotels, mostly downtown and south myrtle. Down town is mostly for teens and younger singles. Its fun if you love crowds and noise. Now that I'm in my 40's I try to stay South Myrtle for the quiet and I prefer resorts that at "least" have an indoor pool and an indoor lazy river so that my child will have something to do even if it rains. Some of the best are The Landmark, Crown Reef and Compass Cove. I "have" stayed at the Holiday Inn south which isn't bad but at that time did not have the lazy river. All of the above resorts are nice and offer any type of room you could want. Compass Cove is the best price. Crown Reef is the most luxurious. All of the above have web sites showing their Amenities. As for restaurants, I like Ghost Ship and Seafare in the Murrels Inlet area. Also on 17 south in from Myrtle and before Murrels inlet is an Outback. Service was great there and you can't beat knowing what you're getting. Right beside the Crown Reef is a Damon's where you can look out the window at the ocean. It's wonderful. I've been there when I thought the food was excellent and when it wasn't so great, but the view, the service and the hospitality makes up for anything else that might be missing.
For Shopping I prefer the Myrtle Beach Factory Outlets North on Highway 501. If your feet aren't dragging when you leave there, heading back toward Myrtle you can stop in at Waccamaw and shop till you DROP!!

Well.........I really hate to burst anyone's bubble but the sea mist isn't what it's cracked up to be! I mean come on, you travel miles and miles hours and hours just to go and spend a nice time in Myrtle Beach, than you arrive at the sea mist aka *&#@ hole just to find that your room is nasty, the carpet was so filthy and let's don't forget about the rude staff!!!!!! Me and my family go to MB every year, but 2002 me and my fianc? went.......needless to say, we got a full refund on our piece of junk room and went to the Ocean Park Resort, and found a nice clean room, the staff there was so nice and felt sorry for us because we was so tired of trying to find a room, we got to the point to where we didn't care anymore! I would NOT recommend the sea mist to anyone! A person must be hard up to stay there......and NO we will not be returning to the sea mist again!!!

I have been going to myrtle beach for the past 18 years, that's at least once a year. since i am only 18, it's a great tradition. i love the entire area. i took my first steps there. everyone must visit the yum-yum shop in garden city. it's the best. and try out medieval times and Dixie stampede, it's pricey but totally worth it. if you teenage kids want to run around by themselves, take them to the garden city pier and let them roam for two or so hours. it's very safe. DO NOT TAKE THEM TO THE ATTIC. it's in downtown MB. I have been there and seen what goes on. yes there is security and only under 21. but things get in and go on. I like going to things like that, but being 18 and saying this, you know it's bad.

My husband and I went to Myrtle Beach this past summer and we really enjoyed ourselves. We stayed at the LaQuinta across from Broadway on the Beach. This is a nice hotel that excepts pets (that is why we stayed there). Friendly staff, clean rooms, and a great free breakfast every morning (I don't just mean coffee and muffins) like hot pancakes, fresh fruit, juice, hot cereal, and lots of other goodies. We also enjoyed eating at the new Captain Georges. This has great seafood. We will be back next year:]

A great house to stay in at North Myrtle Beach is called Crescent One. One block from the beach in North Myrtle. Pets are allowed as well. It had three bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. Great for families.. You can rent it through Century 21 I believe it is available for monthly rentals as well....Have fun. Not expensive either.

Well, here I go again, packing up to drive 20 hrs. to Myrtle Beach. It's a LONG DRIVE , but I consider it well worth it. To be able to walk in the surf and feel the salt air and warm temperatures, longing for the opportunity to move here, reeling in aspiration that the sight of a dolphin can give. .. it's worth it. As I drive I can imagine what I will be digging up when I take my metal detector for it's daily stroll. I usually see diamonds and gold, but know they are elusive. Maybe I'll be lucky, one more time. The sight of a gold ring in the scoop, brings excitement and joy each time. The salt water that corrodes the newly minted coins, does wonders for my legs and I feel exhilarated as I will make my way down the beach once more. I see (me) , exhausted , and sun burnt , as the day draws to a close, I make my way back to the room I have feverishly sought out for location and price , waiting to empty my pouch of it's contents of newly lost treasure. Hopefully, A cold beer will help me keep my cool while I count my treasures and wait for the morning sun. I will be out at sunrise .. I hear a horn : sorry , my fault . The green sign says;; Myrtle Beach , 500 miles . !! I'm only 500 hundred miles away from my Dream Home.

A friend of mine goes to myrtle beach twice a year so I figured I'd tag along to see what s.c was all about. I called up my friend Annette to go. Well Annette and I went a couple days after my friend heather. We followed heather's directions exactly. Well my friend Annette wrote down the condo phone number wrong so we couldn't get in touch with anyone. And to top it off no one we ask in s.c. knew what a condo was (never knew a condo was called a plantation) and to make matters worse we had to sleep in a food lion parking lot until the next morning. Heather made us feel better by taking us to dick's last resort. What a place. I recommend it to anyone who wants a laugh. But if you do go just don't try and insult them too much. If you do you'll probably get what we did. A bib, a hat, and a lot of insults. All I did was call the waitress by name and then when she answered I said just checking for xxxxx. Who would have known she would be so sensitive. I give my first trip to s.c. an a+. So if you're looking for a vacation spot myrtle beach is definitely the place to go.

We love Garden City Beach, been coming here for 10 years, and planning to retire here within a year. We make sure to catch bike week (59th annual this year) sponsored by Harley Davidson- we have met the most wonderful friends over the years at bike week. Great times, no trouble, lots of "welcomes" from local businesses. It's usually the second full week in May- if you love cruisin' on your bikes and meeting great people-- with lots of sunshine, it's the place to be.

First time to Myrtle Beach (April 8th - 11th, 1999) HERE IS MY EXPERIENCE WITH MYRTLE BEACH (A LITTLE LONG BUT INFORMATIVE) I wanted to fill this out because I read these travelogues while planning my stay which I feel helped me........ My girlfriend and I decided to spend a few days in Myrtle Beach the Sunday before. We chose it becuase the forecast (www.weather.com) was to be nice that weekend. Since neither of had stayed there I spent several hours on Monday on the internet at http://www.segetaway.com/MyrtleBeach/LodgingList.html looking for nice places to stay. We wanted to be on the beach and becuase it was a last minute vacation which needed to planned inside a day, we decided to stay at a resort hotel since I felt would be easiest. After reading several horror stories of some old worn out resorts on the Grand Strand, I reasoned the newer a place was (no matter how it was run) would be good since I was more worried of staying in a run down place than bad service. I started calling all the resorts I found on the logging web page and ended up accidentally talking to a Myrtle Beach travel agent who lives in the area. She also recommended staying at a newer place since they would probably be the most decent as far as cleanliness. In particular, the resorts she recommended to me were the Yachtsman (probably the nicest on the Grand Strand), The Coral Beach, The SandCaslte South, and the The Crwon Reef. Of these, the place that had a vacancy and looked most appealing to me was the SandCastle South (there is a SandCastle resort that is located north of central Myrtle Beach whereas the SandCastle South is two miles south.)It also happended to be the newest resort hotel on the Grand Strand. The travel agent I talked to told me it had been open for only a year and I called the SandCastle twice to talk to two different receptionists who also both told me it had been open for only a year. In addition, they both told me all construction was complete (so there wouldn't be any half complete swimming pools or construction mess). THE SANDCASTLE SOUTH IS A VERY NICE RESORT HOTEL. It has an outdoor swimming pool, lazy river(heated), and two hot tubs(whirlpools) that are hot!! There is also a heated indoor pool and kids wadding pool. The place was immaculate. We were there near the last part of the yearly spring break legacy so the city and the beach were full. The SandCastle Resort had no vacancy but there was still plenty of room around the pool and on the beach. OUR ROOM WAS VERY NICE. IT WAS CLEAN AND WELL FURNISHED; EVERYTHING WAS BRAND NEW. TWO NICE TV'S, 3 QUEEN SIZE BEDS, A FULL SIZE REFRIGERATOR, 4 BURNER STOVE, POTS AND PANS, KITCHEN UTENSILS, AND A VERY LARGE MICROWAVE, AND EACH ROOM HAS TWO OF IT'S OWN A/C AND HEATERS WHICH YOU CONTROL (and no I don't have an investment in the resort). Generally speaking, the resorts closest to central Myrtle Beach (which I call the Pavillion Amusement Part area) are older or much more run down because they have been there for so long. They are probably cheaper would explain why there was such a large concentration of teeny boppers in that area. There are tons of places to stay in Myrtle Beach. There are also some very nice national chain hotels within a mile from the beach (like the Hampton Inn on R17). If I were to go back to Myrtle Beach and wanted to stay on the beach I would look into renting a condo (there are just tons of them in between the resort hotels and they looked pretty nice). If I were to stay in a resort hotel, I would try The Crown Reef. It is huge and very elegant. One day while walking on the beach behind it, my girlfriend and I walked up into their patio pool area and it was nice! It was just as clean as the SandCastle South, just bigger and more elegant. A big plus about staying at the SandCastle South or the Crown Reef is that they are about 2.5 miles south of central Myrtle Beach where all the older, cheaper places are which is where the concentration of youths hang out. I don't know if it was becuase we were there during the spring break season but at 3 o'clock in the morning, there had to be a thousand or more teenagers walking and driving up and down ocean blvd. everynight. It was a big crusing scene where a mile of "decked out" cars would slowly drive up and back the Pavillion Area playing loud rap music. I would have hated staying in a resort in that area. The Yachtsman looked like a really nice place, but it is in the heart of that mess. We didn't find the attractions in the Pavillion Area worth stopping for. We did vist Ripley's Believe It or Not which we didn't care much for either. Atleast not what we payed to get in. THE BEST ATTRACTION AT MYRTLE BEACH IS BROADWAY AT THE BEACH. Lots of good restaurants, little unique shops, as well as Ripley's Aquarium and the IMEX Theatre. We thought Ripley's Aquarium was the neatest attraction in the city (it has a huge tank that you walk under which contains 6 or more adult sharks!!!) and an area that allows you to touch sting rays, skates, and baby sharks. IF YOU GO TO MYRTLE BEACH, GO TO RIPPLEY'S AQUARIUM. The IMEX theatre was also worth visiting but being from Cincinnati where we have an IMAX theatre (similar to the IMEX but bigger and better) it wasn't as impressive as the aquarium. BAREFOOT LANDING is also worth visiting (no you don't walk around barefoot on sand or anything - it's just a name) and is similar to BroadWay at the Beach but not nearly as large or elegant. YOU COULD EASILY SPEND AN ENTIRE DAY AT BROADWAY AT THE BEACH!!!! NEGATIVES ABOUT MYRTLE BEACH - There were too many teenagers that played loud music and drove like complete idiots. The people there we felt were generally arrogant and traffic was often at a standstill (except farther south where we were staying). There didn't seem like there were as many police as there should have been. There is a restaurant on every corner and it was nearly impossible to go to one during the dinner hours without having to wait half and hour. Make reservations if you can. Also, check around and see if people recommend a place that has good food. We didn't have a good dinner any night we were there. I'm sure there is good food in Myrtle Beach, you just need to find it. The beach was very shelly, meaning you needed some sort of sandle to get out past the first fifteen feet without saying several four letter words. PARKING GARAGES AT THE RESORTS ARE TIGHT!!! The garage at the SandCastle South had more than enough spaces, they were just small as well as the garage itself. The other resort's garage's looked cramped as well. Try not to plan on bringing your biggest vehicle if you are parking in a resort hotel!!! POSITIVES ABOUT MYRTLE BEACH - It is a close Florida!!! Prices for everything was very reasonable. Despite all the shells on the beach, it is still a nice beach. Good surf if you like the waves. The sun was very warm and the weather was beautifull. An absolute ton of plays to swing golf clubs and lots of places to play miniature golf. There is alot to do in Myrtle Beach and would be a great spot for a family vacation. I would enjoy going back to Myrtle Beach Again!!!!!!!!

My first time ever seeing the ocean was going to Myrtle Beach. It was a bad time here, I was in a serious depression, my family was falling apart, my grades were slipping, I was all messed up on drugs, it was bad. Well, I canna say that it was Myrtle Beach really, that helped me, but rather just the ocean. LOL, we had a hard time getting into a hotel...we had made reservations at a really nice place, and when we got there, they said we had to be 25 to get in (be very careful when planning, everyone) Well, luckily, we found a place (i dunna member the name) that took us tho we were only 18. We didn't get to stay the amout of time we had initially planned, and it rained the whole time we were there, but we had a blast anyway. Well, back to my initial point, I sat on the balcony of the room (we HAD to get ocean front room) and lol, since i smoke, and my best friend doesnt, i had to go out there to smoke. so i was out there quite a bit. i would jsut sit there, and think, staring out at the ocean. ..somehow, something changed. WHen I came home (i live in Illinois) i was calm, changed. But my overall favorite memory...was one night, around midnight, when the rain had stopped temporarily, and the moon was full, her and I walked down to the beach, and waded in the water a bit, talking of life, death, and everything in between. Looking up at the moon over the water was one of the most moving experiences in my life. Ive babbled enough now, just wanted to share. Sweetest dreams, waking or no... for the waking are often best Wen

We will be heading for MyrtleBeach in one week for our 6th year. We are a family of 6 and we always take a friend along. We have always rented from Condo-World in North Myrtle Beach. They have the best rates of any of the rental places and their condos are fantastic. Greatpeople work there and they treat you super. We enjoy Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach and the uotlet stores on 501.So much to do and see in MB. I enjoy golfing with friends that also go each year, but we are finding that their rates are becoming outrageous. It costs as much for 6 rounds as it does for a membership for the year up here. Great places to eat are T-Bonz, Outback Steak House, and the Outrigger. My wife got gift certificates for T-Bonz and Outback for me as Christmas gifts! Cant wait to use them. We willeventually retire to the MB area. As soon as we arrive we will be making our reservations for 2000. Jack Armstrong

We live only two hours from MB. We go several times a year. The chamber of Commerce puts out a publication annually. I pick one or two up every year at the visitors center. The name of the publication is Stay & Play in the Myrtle Beach Area. It is fantastic. It has hotels and resorts listed in alphabetical order. Showing a picture of each one. There is usually a price list and a small lay out of the rooms. Most places have a toll free number to call for reservations and general information. Also most places now list there web site. I agree the Sea Mist has a lot lacking when it comes to there rooms. Most are small and stuffy. Some rooms are very damp inside. I must say the water park is great. I have stayed in may places from South Myrtle to North. Some of my favorite places are The Crown Reef, The Landmark, The Sandcastle South, The Yactsman, The Patricia Grand, Forest Dunes, The Patricia North, The Caravell, and The Long Bay Resort. It all depends on if I am taking a group of kids, and the ages of the kids. If I want to stay some where so I can walk almost every place I go, or if I am going just to enjoy the pools and the beach. Which is usually the case. I could go on and on but enough is enough. I love the beach. I always want to stay on the ocean front. I already have the 99 pubication of stay & play. I can't wait to check out the new places.

Went to Surfside beach in June of 98. Surfside was very nice. Not nearly as croweded as MB. However, we rented a condo for 8 people and it was not at all what we expected. It was very large, but it was dark, out of date, and furnished from garage sales. We rented from Surfside Reality. We were very disappointed. The condo was not even cleaned upon our arrival. The pool was very nice, right on the ocean. We really enjoyed the uncrowded beaches there. We really are fans of the Outer Banks, NC and we will be going back there next year. We won't be returning to MB toooo commercialized!

We go to Myrtle Beach every summer and we have stayed in hotels, condos, and even camped. Where ever we stayed we always have a great time. The restaurants are great, the shopping is even better, and the golf courses are the best. We plan to go again this summer. Last year we stayed at Myrtle Beach travel park, can anyone recommend anouther one,can .

We went to Myrtle Beach Sept 18, 1998 and stayed at the Sand Dunes. The people there were rude, and when our luggage got lost on the airlines and were delivered to the hotel later that night, the STAFF did not even tell us our luggage was there. We asked for a non smoking room and got stuck with a room that a bunch of cigar-smoking conventioneers must have just stayed in. I wrote a Myrtle Beach website about our trip I hope people will check out. Had a BLAST there.....we are from California and it was just a different experience for us. Just the hotel was a disappointment. http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Arcade/5821/mb.html

Just returned from Myrtle Beach 8/28/98. Some tips: 1. Bring your own beach chairs and umbrellas. We stayed at the Caravelle and, unlike the siutation at other beach vacation spots, the hotel does not supply them for the guests. The price we were quoted was $20 per day for two chairs and an umbrella. The lifeguards run the rental business. We picked up two chairs for $13 and an umbrella for $40 from one of the nearby souvenier / beach supply stores. 2. If you are evacuted due to a hurricane (we were from Bonnie) be prepared to sit for three hours just to get off the island. The National Guard / Police direct traffic, at least in our experience, at intersections just off the island. 3. Go see the Aquarium. The people mover "ride" through the main tank is breathtaking. The only criticism is that there is not enough explanation of what you are seeing, at least for my taste. In that sense, the Baltimore aquarium does a better job.

We recently returned from our first vacation at Myrtle Beach. We were there from 8/2/98 to 8/8/98. I wish I could say that it was great, but I can't. The main part of our problem was the accomadations. We stayed at the Swamp Fox. I will say that the people were very nice and did try to accomadate us. Our ocean front room was on the sixteenth floor. We rode an elevator from hell to get there. The elevator shook and made all kinds of noises. We questioned the safety on our future trips. At one time or other, we had different odors in the room and outside the room. As I said, the staff did try to fix things, but first impressions stayed with us. Our ocean front view room turned out to be an obstructed view room with various creatures crawling on the balcony. I figure these creatures came from the obstruction, a concrete box with unmaintained plants that had an oder. If anyone in the future is staying at the Swampfox on the sixteenth floor in an ocean view room, make sure it is one of the un-obstructed view rooms. Another disappointment was the beach. I thought it was very dirty. There were broken shells all over as well as garbage; cans, paper, fireworks, cigeratte butts, and other misc. junk. I even saw broken glass. As I walked farther north, I think the beach did get nicer. At the beach, the lifeguards have to rent chairs out instead of doing their main job that needs to be done. We stayed out of the room as much as possible. On the positive side, Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing, the Waterparks, and the various eating establishments were great. If we had better accomadadtions, I think the trip would be much better. I would go back to Myrtle Beach, but aI would not stay at the Swampfox again. If anyone has any questions, feel free to E-mail me at Yadash@aol.com. We did check out other places to stay while we were there.

OCEAN ANNIES!!!!!!!!! The best place in Myrtle Beach to relax, party and catch some rays! My husband and I have been going since 1994 on our yearly vacation. Now, we have two other couples that joined us last year and we're making it a tradition. We usually go in late August or early September. I usually have to make an extra trip with a group of girls in June or July. We've stayed at Shipwatch, Pelicans Watch, A Place at the Beach, Sands Ocean Club, Sands Beach Club and this year we're stayin at Maison sur Mur. I can't wait! We'll be there Aug. 22-29. It's always been a good experince in this area. It seems to be close to just about everything. There's no other beach-MYRTLE BEACH.

7-1-98: We just returned from Myrtle Beach and stayed for the first time at The Palace. I was very disappointed. Not only did I hear so many vistors complaining about the rooms not being clean, but I saw first hand. When I opened the door to the room, potato chips were on the couch and on the floor. Hair was on the door and floor of the bathroom. I didn't complain because I had heard others complain to the managers and their comment was "so"! I had my cleaning supplies with me and I cleaned up the mess. When a person has to pay a high price a night they expect a clean, sanitized room and the personnel of the resort should be helpful and courteous. After all, if it were not for the visitors, they would not even have a job. I can say the maid was helpful in providing extra towels and washcloths when I requested them. I am here to tell you that if I could not find reservations but at The Palace I just would not visit Myrtle Beach again. The best place ever is Tropical Winds but when we needed reservations they were no vacancies. Next year, I will plan my vacation so I will be able to stay at Tropical Winds. Why in this world "The Strand Magazine" has The Palace listed as a top resort and not Tropical Winds is beyond me?! Places to eat: when the Alabama Grill is rebuilt that will be the place to eat. Hollywood Planet is ridicous, cheeseburgers for $8.95! What a rip off! and for what, just to see big screen movie reviews and an hour and one-half wait! The Alabama Threater Gift Shop is also great with many Alabama souvenirs and other neat things! Myrtle Beach Treasures & Gifts on West Blvd. is a neat little gift shop with reasonable prices. It has some cute gift items not the junky stuff. The clerks in both of these shops were very nice. One last note, if we want to make a statement to resorts like "The Palace" we have to let them know we mean business by not giving them any business. I will also write the Chamber of Commerce and The Strand Magazine. I think we need to take a stand and just maybe these people will clean up their act!

My family and I have been going to Myrtle Beach for as long as I can remember. We sometimes spend family reunions there! When we do go, we often stay in Garden City and rent beach houses. In '85, we had a family reunion and the week we were there, Hurricane Bob struck!! What an experience that was. We all seperated and went to different areas for shelter. The next day we were back at the beach and enjoying the HUGE waves. My family loves the beach. We are going again this and will be there in mid-July. This year we are renting a condo. Does anybody know any info about the Sea Master. It's in Garden City. Thanks for wonderful memories

My husband and I are planning a trip to Myrtle Beach with a couple of our friends. We were there a couple of years ago and plan to stay at the same motel. Its a little mom and pop type place that allows pets. I think you should add a section either here in travelogue or under the lodging area, that tells you exactly which places allow pets. There are many of us who like to travel with our pets and its not easy to find places that allow pets. Thanks, Colleen

Editor's Note: As the proud owner of an Australian Shephard I'm finding more and more that I need to find accommodations which take pets. Guess it is time to add such a section - will what can be done. Thanks for the feedback!

Hi from New York State! We've been going to MB for the past 15 years and we are addicted to it. The winters are long in Rochester, NY and when April comes around we are so looking forward to the sunny south. Even if the weather isn't perfect down there we are never disappointed with our vacation. The walks on the beach in the morning and at night can't compare. Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing are the greatest places to stroll after dinner. The whole week is a relaxation that we look forward to. The great thing about MB is that there is something for everyone...Counting the days. We almost always stay at the Captain's Quarters. March 7, 1998.

March 3, 1998 I just returned from Myrtle Beach recently and I had the greatest time there with friends from school! We decided that we needed a new place to go, so we decided why not a place with many different things to do, a good beach, and many, many compliments? And so we did- I convinced my teacher that it was time to take a trip! We left from Florida around 8:00 in the morning and went on I-95 all the way up to South Carolina. Make sure that you stop and get some breakfast at Waffle House or Cracker Barrel. The stop in Brunswick and Jessup, Georgia (7A, US 25 and 341) is a great stop for breakfast and dinner. They offer a nice, clean Cracker Barrel and IHOP restaurant. There is a Howard Johnson's (make sure to stop there for ice cream because their flavors are the best), a Shoney's, a Quincys Family Restaurant, and many more places to eat. Entering South Carolina is good- we got to Myrtle Beach at around 8:30 PM and stayed at the Hampton Inn at Northwood. What a nice hotel- it offers a continental breakfast and has a clean area for swimming. You also get free HBO and local calls- CHILDREN 18 OR YOUNGER STAY FREE! (And THAT was a miracle- we're all 16 and 17!) Broadway at the Beach is a must because it offers EVERYTHING! It has an IMAX theatre offering a show every hour, a Ripley's Sea Aquarium with so much to offer, and some of the greatest places to eat such as the Nascar Cafe and Planet Hollywood. The Hard Rock Cafe is not as nice as the other two- the food seemed to be not well prepared at the time and our waitor was rude- also lines there are too long. I do like their gift shop, though. Briarcliffe Mall is alright- it has a Belk,K-Mart, JC Penney's, a Limited, and more. The Pavillion is major fun- it offers a roller coaster!! For good dining on North King's Highway, try the Olive Garden or Garcia's Mexican Restaurant- the food there is delicious! Also try Medieval Times- it has great chicken! Magic On Ice is very good. I'm going back here again! Good luck on your next trip!

I've read through all the posted comments and failed to see anything about vacation condos. My husband and I own property on Shore Drive, at Pelican's Watch and Pelican's Landing. Shore Drive is on the north end of Myrtle Beach, almost in North Myrtle Beach. For those familiar with the Area, these two units are between Ocean Annie's beachfront club, and the Radisson Kingston Plantation. For those of you unhappy with your accomodations, a three-bedroom condo is very reasonable, especially in off-season (Sept to May). We happen to rent through Chicora Beach Holiday, but there are other companies that represent these properties. My family loves the beach! Our favorite restaurants are Rossi's, Bovine's in Murrell's Inlet, and believe it or not, the Nascar Cafe. Myrtle Waves on Bypass 17 is great. Broadway at the Beach is everything they advertise. We visited the aquarium and thought it was great. Outlet Mall on 501 is also great. We also like to rent a pontoon and cruise up the waterway to Bird Island. We have golfed MB National, Wild Wing, the Grandaddy, Waterway Hills, Arcadian Shores to name a few... the more expensive the course, the better shape they are in. You will find golf specials, and if you decide on a less-expensive course, it is typically not as nice.

If you are looking for a way to get away from the packed beaches of Myrtle Beach, try Sunset Beach-located about 40 minutes north of Ocean Boulevard. I have been coming to Sunset here for 20 something years now and the beaches are better than any around. This is a great beach for private relaxation and if you have kids old enough, let them drive to Myrtle Beach at night and don't expect them back until 2 or 3 in the morning.

I'm a teenager and there is no where I would rather be than Myrtle Beach. For all of you parents who have kids anywhere from 15 years old to being in college, plan your vacation here. Mrytle Beach is great!! My husband and I, and all of our kids have been coming there for the last 9 years. Started in 1989, it was our honeymoon, with our kids!! Now all of our kids are grown up, and some have family's of their own, and now, we all go, kids, and grandkids. We always find something to do, but our favorite thing is being on the beach, playing volleyball, or some sort of game, whatever we come up with, and soaking up the rays, swimming, and going to Ocean Annies. And of course, drinking lots of beer!! We will be there 6/6/98 untill 6/13/98. We have always rented a condo from Chicora Rentals, and have always been happy with them. SEE YA IN JUNE!!:):)

We are plannning on going again this year for our senior Spring Break trip. The bars are really fun to go to and cruising the strip is cool too! I would recomend Myrtle Beach to the younger, partying type of croud because it is a wild time!!! I have stayed in The Patricia Grand and the Breakers and both are really nice but mostly for familites not alot of partying going on in them! Bring your sun tan lotion!!

The beach is nowhere near as pritty as Gulf Shores Alabama or Panama City Florida. Lots of strip bars and golf and gift shops. Not worth the gas to get there in my opinion. Go to Florida or Alabama and see what a real GRAND STRAND beach lookes like!!!

I have been going to Myrtle Beach since I was two years old. It is the greatest place in the whole world. My parents have always been able to take our family on an annual visit to South Carolina. The Grand Strand is a wonderful place for families to go and enjoy the warm summer days and nights of the south. I have many fond memories of Myrtle Beach and I would tell everyone who asked about it that it is a very relaxing place the just kick back and have some fun!!!!!!!! I have also stayed at Garden City, SC which is a few miles away from Myrtle Beach. My suggestion for a place to stay there is the Water's Edge resort. The rooms are great and it is in a great location. A GREAT place!!!!!

Just got back from our very first visit to Myrtle Beach. We've already checked out locations in Garden City for next year's vacation. Lodging in Garden City was very limited but it was so peaceful and quiet. Met lots of nice folks on the Garden City Fishing Pier while listening to the band or merely ocean watching. Visited all the typical tourist locations -- Barefoot Landing, Hard Rock Cafe, etc. Got tickets to see the Gatlin Brothers at the Gatlin Brothers Theater at Fantasy Harbor. It was well worth the money; they certainly are talented performers. Forget all those seafood buffets -- go to the Outriggers in North Myrtle Beach. The seafood there was almost as good as Maryland seafood and the staff and service was excellent. Lived in Maryland all my life and never cared too much for Ocean City, MD -- both my husband and I fell in love with Myrtle Beach; can't wait to until next year.

We are just back from our week long vacation at Myrtle Beach (8/24/97) and can now appreciate all of the rave reviews about the Grand Strand by other vacationers. We've spent most of our beach vacations in MD. and VA. and think the water at Myrtle Beach is much warmer and somewhat calmer. Beach parking is easy to find. Loads of public access, even if you go during the prime time (12:00 pm and on). Beaches vary-- those at the north end are more expansive, but there are no shells. Those down by Surfside are narrow but there's a great family atmosphere and lots of shells if you like to walk along the beach. We did most of our shopping at Walmart on Route 544. It's open 24 hours a day and the prices were good. We hit Broadway at the Beach and would definitely recommend it. The line at the Hard Rock Cafe wasn't too long (we got there on a weekday at 4:00 pm). We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was adequate and reasonable. The miniature golf course there- Dragon's Lair, looks great.

Just returned from our second annual (hopefully of many) trip to the Myrtle Beach area. Beginning last year, we started an annual week to Garden City, where we rented a beach house along with my brother's family, my sister's family, and our Dad. In reality, my husband have been to Myrtle many times in years past, but we always camped in our pop-up. Since my sister's family does not camp, and most of our favorite camping spots have given way to high-rises (boo!), we opted for the tranquil beach of Garden City, where at 2 miles south of the pier, the beach is wonderfully deserted, pristine and private. With Murrell's Inlet to the south, seafood is plentiful for those who choose to cook up their favorites. Sharing the rent between four families makes the price very attractive. Sharing cooking duties makes mealtime fun as opposed to a chore, and all of the kids has a ball! Adults took the bedrooms, while the kids preferred to camp out together in the great room, in their sleeping bags. The beach house had two enclosed showers downstairs, which was great! The body surfing was a blast for all, from the youngest (at 6 years old) to the oldest (at 73 years old). Wish we could have stayed longer!!!

We are going to MB for a week's vacation, leaving New York on August 22! I was kind of concerned after reading a posting that they were rejuvenating the beach. He wrote that they had travelled a long while to get to MB and could not even go out to the beach at the place they were staying because of equipment out on the sand working on the beach. He said they were at 48th ave. I called the Caravelle where we will be staying and was told that the beach rejuvenation has been put on hold until October. They were getting alot of complaints from tourists and have stopped!! Thank goodness. Just thought I would spread the word. Have a great vacation

i'm a 14 year old and i have been going to myrtle beach for 10 years now. we bought a timeshare at Riptide Beach Club 2 and have been staying there for the last 8 years. The last couple of years we have been "stepping out" and going to some fun new sights in the grand strand. the Alabama theater is great and is a great american show. the Dixie Stampede and Medeival times are also fun places that like to get kids and grown-ups involved with the show. we went to broadway at the beach last year and saw the HardRock cafe. it took forever to get in and inside people were all around and it was so loud that my parents couldnt hear what i was saying and i was standing right beside them. Micky Gilleys resturant was a very cool place ( if you like country music) and it was very colorful. we always walk to Emmits calabash which is right at our condo, located at 2806. ocean bulavard. ( one street up from the patricia grand, which is next door to our condo) emmits gets an A+ from us on seafood, hospitality and cleanness. the patricia grand has a resturant inside and we get up early every morning to eat breakfast there. its has a wonder oncean front view. we're going back August 15 and are going to stay for a week. i can't wait but i can remember what it was like a few years back and it wasn't as crowded as it is now. looks like the the secrets out. so whoever reads this before aug. 15, email me and tell me whats new this year. thanks!

Great place to go for vacation. Tons of great restaurants and shopping. My family goes every year!! We love it.

My family just went to Myrtle Beach for our bi-annual family reunion. We were there the week of July 12th thru the 19th. We have our reunions every other year, this being our 5th reunion there. We have always stayed at The Anchorage on North Ocean Blvd. We keep returning to the same place because it is very clean, well maintained and very attractive as far as the condo units and the grounds around the Anchorage. There is a pool which is great fun for everyone and the beach is just across the street from the Anchorage. My family would recommend The Anchorage to anyone who wants to stay somewhere that feels like home. The condo's have kitchens, two bathrooms, two-three bedrooms, VCR's, sterios and many other comforts of home. Our reunions consist of about 30 people and we all keep returning to this place because we have been satisfied now every time we go. Myrtle Beach offers so much for the family to do. We used to go to Barefoot Landing, but now that theres Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing cannot compare. Don't waste your time going there. If you want to go to a very good seafood restaurant on the water that is casual, Drunken Jacks in Murrells Inlet is THE BEST! Mrytle Beach Waves water park was very expensive (60.00 for a family of four) and not worth it! There was barely anything a child under the age of 5/6 could do. If you want to see a good movie, go to the IMEX theatre at Broadway at the Beach. It offers movies that are exciting and entertaining on a very large screen that makes you feel as if you are a part of the movie. It is no ordinary movie, it is different and refreshing. We saw the movie on the Grand Canyon and that was a good one for all ages. I could not say enough about Myrtle Beach. We love it there and plan on going back in 1999 for our 6th family reunion. If you have any questions you want to ask about Myrtle Beach or The Anchorage, feel free to e-mail us and we'll respond.

We have been vacationing in Myrtle Beach for 25-30 years. Most times a week during the summer and a couple of long weekends during the fall and spring. My girls age 28 and 30 have beeg going to MB since they were toddlers and I am now taking my grandsons--ages 7 and 12-during spring break and during the summer. We vacationed the week of June 1-7 and this was first time in all these years weather was bad, but we still enjoyed other things besides the beach. The music theaters, minature golf, movie theaters, Broadway at the Beach, shopping, and great food. The Carolina Roadhouse was very good. First time we had eaten there. There salads with House Dressing are great. Also, there filet mignon. We own a timeshare at the Yachtman's and have been very pleased with it. We know what to expect in our unit and are not disappointed as it sometimes happens when you just pick a motel. Would like to hear from anyone about good places to eat.

My family and I just returned from MB 7/20. While our stay was fairly nice, we were dismayed at our location: BEWARE! THE BEACH FROM 48TH STREET WORKING DOWN TO THE LOWER BLOCK NUMBERS IS BEING "RESTORED"--ie FOR 1000 FEET OF BEACH AT A TIME, THERE ARE BULLDOZERS, TRUCKS, AND PUMPS . THE BEACH ACCESSES ARE GATED OFF--AND THE WATER IN THESE 1000FEET STRETCHES IS BLACK!Needless to say, although our hotal(the Hampton) boasted walking distance to the beach, you had to drive 10 blocks North or south to find swimmable water. No one told us of this before or at our arrival, and while I am all for Beach restoration, don't do it in the height of tourist season and ruin MY vacation accomodations. We wonder what moron in the MB Chamber of Commerce decided this!

Summer 1997, resented very much not being able to use our own beach umbrella and refused to pay for theirs. The lifeguard made us put our umbrella either "waist-high" or "behind the rental umbrellas" which is on a hill too steep to relax in chair or blanket. Supposedly so he could get a good view of the entire beach . What can we, the paying public, do about this injustice?

Hey gang. I just got back from MB stayed 6/1-6/5. Yea, during "senior week"..I am a Mom with 8 yr old kid. The teens were not bad, the security was excellent on the beach, however still a lot of rowdiness. Did extensive research on the net for this trip. Just a few disappointments... Stayed at Landmark Resort. This place is great, had a 2 room oceanfront suite, pool area is #1, however...the pre-teens need to be chaparoned a bit better. They seemed to take over the place and hotel security didn't do much about it. One HUGE DOWNER was our rental car was KEYED in the worst way, still waiting for damages bill. Hotel will not be responsible, was parked in parking garage which was SuPPOSED to have security. Had to file police report and such. Second downer was Ripley's Sea Aquarium was not open yet. Broadway at the Beach was great tho. Took a "cruise" @ $12 a person..what a waste of money... no sunshine either..spent most of the time in jean and jacket. All in all...it wasn't a total washout. Email me with any questions you may have ...I'll be happy to help and answer since I has so many computer friends help me!

Saturday, June 7, 1997 My husband(Ron)and I first visited Myrtle Beach on our honeymoon, 34 years ago (March 1963). We loved it then and still do, even though it has changed considerably. We stayed at a little place called the "Singing Surf" and have not been able to locate it since. We have been staying at The Patricia Grand for the past 5 or 6 years and try to visit at least twice a year. It's a great place, centrally located, with spacious accommodations. Now that our children are grown we love just hanging out on the beach during the day and going to places like Broadway at the Beach in the evenings. We'll be coming down next week and this time my daughter and her new husband will be coming along. My son-in-law and husband plan on hitting the golf course at Tidewater Plantation where we have recently purchased some property. Hopefully, one day we will be able to build our retirement home there and not just visit the beach but LIVE THERE!!

I spent every summer vacation with my family in Myrtle Beach. We stayed at Pirateland family campground. Nice place if you like roughing it. Now that I am 24, I am taking my husband there for our year anniversary. He has never been to Myrtle, (he is from NYC..I am from NC) and I want him to love it as I do. We are staying at the Patricia grand. I love to eat at Dick's Last Resort, but can anyone email me and clue me in on the "hot spots" to eat and entertain? I have not been to MB for about 5-6 years. We are leaving July 24, so any information would be great! Thanks.

I just returned from Myrtle Beach last week (May3-10/97) We stayed at Myrtle Beach Resort in south Myrtle Beach - almost Surfside Beach. We rented 2bedroom condo privately - it was nice - the outdoor pools were not heated and with the wind from the ocean it was too cold - not very many people were swimming outdoors. The indoor pool was like a bath! We were looking forward to going to the Ripleys Aquarium with our little guy but it wasn't open yet. I believe they said May 23. The shopping was OK - we always go to TJ Maxx and the malls. The outlet mall was dead - there are alot of empty stores - didn't find as many deals as usual. We stayed two years ago at the Plantation Resort on the 2 Deer Track golf courses - it was more expensive but worth it - washer and dryer in unit, backed onto 18th hole, sun on balcony all day, bigger unit, and indoor pool and fitness centre. They are building a new outdoor pool - we drove in, its not finished yet - but should be soon. It's great for golfers - $25 a round includes cart (its an ok course), and they don't need the car - so we can shop! We did most of our shopping at the Wal-Mart plaza - had two good clothing stores and a shoe store, Wal-mart has a huge grocery store in it, and whole store is open 24 hours. Looking forward to going back next year. We used to go to Florida for years, now MB is our choice - closer and cheaper!

my family and i go to mb every summer. our children love it!! we take boat rides,go to the carnivals, shop, all the fun stuff mb has to offer. our favorite place to eat is Preston's. it's affordable and they offer foods that small children would find yummy. we have stayed at the Sand Dunes and it is a very beautiful place; a little on the more expensive scale if you're on a budget, but well worth the price!!we all love mb!!!!!!!

My family has been coming to MB for years! My own children loveed the place and now their children do. We take a week for the entire family -grandma, sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. We rent a condo in Garden City facing the ocean with 8 rocking chairs on the porch facing the ocean. Guys play golf, women shop or sun and the kids are in the ocean.
Best resturants anywhere are to be found in MB, especially if you love SEAFOOD. Bovines at Murrels Inlet is great.
We also like Chestnut Hill - a little fancy- good for big people's night out. And Broadway at the beach can't be beat for fun, shopping and food. I like Barefoot Landing, but Broadway is better. Be sure and take the kids on the science boat trip from the dock at Murrells Inlet.
If you rent a condo, have someone in your group bring an old Bar B Que grill - the fresh seafood (shrimp on the barbie) is wonderful after a day in the sun.....4-24-97

i have been visiting myrtle beach since i was about 2 and it has been the most wonderful experience i have ever imagined. myrtle beach is packed with golf courses of all kinds, it offers a remarkable selection of dining options, it also contains one of the us's longest grand strands. all in all myrtle beach is a wonderful experience for people of all ages. i have always prefered staying at a condo at ---- a place at the beach ----. it offers much room and a beautiful view of the atlantic ocean, when walking out of any condo your not more than 10 steps away from myrtle beaches sandy shores. i do reccomend ---- a place at the beach ---- for one who enjoyes relaxation and comfort with that extra special touch, hospitality.

Just got back from MB. First time there in almost 17 yrs. Couldn't believe how much it had grown! Based on Travelogue comments, we stayed at the Caribbean. Nice room, great view, but a few minor drawbacks (no lights in the parking garage some nights, etc.,) Our favs were: Eats -- Capt. Benjamin's buffet(pricey for a family of 4,though), River City Cafe for the best burgers, and Liberty Steakhouse at Broadway for great prime rib. Broadway at the Beach for shopping. Huntington Beach State Park in Murrell's Inlet for the best beach (wide & clean). Brookgreen Gardens (too beautiful to describe) for a whole day's outing. Our least favs were Barefoot Landing -- (I know it's highly recommended, but I wasn't impressed and simply enjoyed Broadway at the Beach more), Waccamaw Pottery (just another outlet mall with the same stores you see a lot of places), Hard Rock Cafe (the food wasn't anything special and we had a waiter with an attitude). Before I forget, also liked Uncle John's Restaurant on 24th Ave N. for a good old fashioned breakfast at a great price. And of course, Kirk's Ice Cream Parlor. If you haven't been to MB for a while you're in for quite a pleasant surprise! 4/12/97.

We wouldn't go anywhere else! Our last vacation was four years ago, just after we purchased our new home and our son started college. We stayed at Palmetto Dunes with friends of ours and their two children. It was both spacious and clean. My husband and I made reservations for the Wind Song in North Myrtle for September - can anyone tell us what to expect? This will be our first vacation without the kids and we're really looking forward to it. For all those interested, T-Bonz is a great steakhouse and they have a nine layer chocolate cake to die for! The River City Cafe is also a favorite of ours.

Myrtle beach is a beautiful place to visit. I used to look forward to the annual trip with my church group every year (I'm 24 now). I am from Hickory, N.C. and went every year until I was 20. I went two years ago and was pleasantly surprised at how much it grows every year. I was really disappointed at how dirty the beach was though. I know I saw at least five condoms and miles of other trash. It is disappointing to see how people don't care about the only land we will ever have.

Just returned from a golf vacation in MB (3/3 - 3/6/97). Weather was great (mid 70's to low 80's) with all sunshine and no rain. Stayed at a condo associated with the Carribbean Resort. We played Heron Point, Waterway Hills (27 hole course) and Eagle Nest. Waterway Hills was the best of the three (Nice fairways and excellent greens plus many bunkers for those who like the beach), however Eagle Nest was challenging. Recommend checking into replays for the courses you play and schedule them with your tee times. You only have to pay the cart fee and you could save some bucks and still o.d. on golf. Good places to eat are Capt. Benjamin's Calabash, Damon's Ribs, New York Prime (on 28th Ave.), Cagney's, Rossi's (Italian), and you can't forget Hooter's. We decided to fly and used Myrtle Beach Express (1 1/2 hour filght from Newark - Landed at 11:00 a.m. and our tee time was 1:00 p.m.). Air fair was cheap ($165.00 round trip - 4th person flies free - they divide the other three rates amongst the foursome).

We will be vacationing in MB as usual this year and would like to have a family portrait done by the ocean. Does anyone have suggestions. We of course want quality , reputable, and reasonable service. To put my two cents in here, I have been going to MB and the area since I can remember. My earliest memories (around age 2) are of walking from a small hotel to the ocean! There is no place like MB. When I married and had children I insisted that they have the same tradition and memories that I cherish. My oldest is now 7 and LOVES THE BEACH.

One of the biggest concerns we have is the rate of increased prices of condo's where we have stayed. Some are going up at pace much quicker than the rate of inflation.
