Hi, we are going to the Avon area of the Outer Banks shortly. When I was little, I was at a wonderful crabbing site but have not been able to remember nor find the place since. Can you give me pointers on where I can go. I will travel up and down a bit. Thanks, Amy

As far as the crabbing goes we have had some luck at times on the bridge on the way back into Collington Harbor. Its the right turn right after the Wright Memorial a couple miles back. Make sure that you are there while the tide is moving in or out seems like the best time. When the tide ebs action drops off. Last year caught about 2 dozen keepers in about two hours.

Good luck.

Yes I have been coming to Rodanthe for like 12 ears now. I highly recommend
the Rodanthe Pier for fishing, I have never gone home disappointed. Catches
will vary from year to year.... But the action is always good. Well worth
my money.

I will be in kill devil hills the first week in may. I purchased some small crab traps and was wondering if I have to have a license to use them. They attach to a fishing line and then it folds up when pulling in. Is there a better place than others. i will be renting a house right on the oceanfront. Thanks in advance for all your help. Shawn

I have been fishing in Rodanthe about three times a year for about five
years now, and have been pretty lucky. I will be down The week before u go
down. I recommend Rodanthe Pier. If u are taking the kids try about 3/4 of the
way down the pier on the south side. Try little pieces of FRESH shrimp on
bottom rigs. The kids will enjoy it. Sea mullet are usually plentiful and
are good to eat. If u need anything or have any questions talk to TJ in the
pier house he will hook u up.

I will be arriving in Rodanthe June 9 and staying for a week. Where are
some good spots to fish from the ocean side or sound side. ( I have never
fished the sound side) Flounder and specks are what I am interested in the
most, but would be happy to catch anything. Also, where would I go to go
crabbing? The kids want to try this this year.
Thanks

Hi Folks, I am the IGFA representative for the northern Outer Banks. (International Game Fish Assoc.) You mention that the world record Blue Marlin was caught in North Carolina. That is not a current record. Also the world record Red Drum should be mentioned as having been caught in NC (Hatteras). Your pier information needs updating regarding Hurricane Isabel. Thank you for this nice work. Mike Hayes mhayes@pinn.net

My brothers and I want to take a three day trip to the outer banks this fall to fish the surf for big bluefish. Which month, October or November, has proven the best for big running blues? Other than calling down for fishing reports, what are some signs to look for, such as weather conditions, that trigger a big run?

I've fished up and down the East Coast, and the Gulf Coast of Florida. My dearesr memories and most treasured days were spent on the piers of the Outer Banks. I remember one fine Autumn day in September 1981 or 1982, when the water was pretty blue all the way into the beach and the menhaden were right in the surf and the Kings were right after them! There were actually Kings skying in the breakers! There were 22 or 23 Kings actually landed on the Nags Head Pier, many more lost, of course, and several cobia caught as well. I've never seen it like that before or since. If you can top that, I'd like to hear about it!

I grew up in the tidewater area and am taking my bride home. I want to Surf cast and if possible catch fish," big time". I want to take her crabbing, What can I expect to catch in the surf during that period of time. What kind of bait, where can I buy the bait. I'm damn excited about the whole trip. and if it goes well I plan on making it an annual trip. Kirt.

Okay, there are certain places you have to go for certain things to eat on the Outer Banks. HURRICANE MO'S for the best steamed oysters ever (beer and wine only)! CAPT'N FRANKS for the best hot dogs! CLARA'S for the absolute best ever she-crab soup! DAIRY MART for the best hamburger you will ever put in your mouth (outside dining only!) ELIZABETH'S CAFE all around yummy! For great tuna taco's, it's gotta be GOOMBAY'S. JOHN'S DRIVE IN for tuna boats with fried okra and don't forget the peanut butter milkshakes (outside dining only!) THE OASIS: you have to go get the BELLRINGERS! Raw oyster on a saltine cracker with horseradish, hot sauce and a jalapeno; a buck a piece. Your nasal passages will be clear for weeks. My record is six. If Mark makes them; I can only do three. THAI ROOM for the sauteed soft shells. We lived on the Outer Banks for nearly 10 years but go back at least twice a year. Just got back from our 11 days during Easter 99. Had a wonde! rful time

This summer when visiting Ocracoke you should check out the Miss Ocracoke charter and the Cockle Creek Restaurant. The Miss Ocracoke is run by Stephen Wilson, my cousin. He is a true island native and his fishing trips are always exciting. I will be working at the "box" on the shore taking reservations. Stop in, say "hi", and go fishin' with cousin Steve. At night, I'll be working for David and Carrie at the Cockle Creek Restaurant. This will be my first year at the Cockle Creek. I have waited tables at Capt. Ben's for nine years. So, if your looking for a great dinner and a wonderful waitress (which I am) stop in and ask for Joanie.

We heard that you can sign your name up on a board for a charter boat and split the cost with other people who sign. Is this true? Also can you bottom fish in a charter boat in the Gulf Stream or is it all trolling? Any suggestions or answers will be appreciated.

During the second week of September we spent two days in Orcacoke fishing. The first day we were on the Drum Stick with Capt David Nagel and James. We found these two men very helpful. We did wreck fishing offshore and caught several nice black seabass and one trigerfish. Our second day was on the Devereau with Capt Reid Robinson. There were six of us and we caught several dolphin, wahoo, and tuna. We would recommend Orcacoke and these two boats for a few days of fun and excitement. Both operate from the Achorage Marina and Inn.
